Project description:
Navīkaraṇa (नवीकरण). —n. (-ṇaṃ) Renewing, doing or making anew, E. nava, karaṇa making. Navīkaraṇa (नवीकरण)
This 17 year old three bedroom house with an unfinished new floor needed a full interior renovation to tie-in the old and the new, merging the modern and contemporary. The house of Beige, Browns and Blues.
Living Room
The living room is a bright and airy space defined by a bespoke sectional sofa and armchairs, creating the perfect conversational zone. The pooja room is a modern interpretation of the traditional temple shikharas with a stepped floating pyramid supported by glass walls. The glass double doors of the pooja come together to form a single portal with decorative brass handles.
Dining & Kitchen
The backdrop to the dining is a teakwood veneer wall with grooves that help to tuck away a powder room and store room. The wall panelling is reflected onto the false ceiling as well, giving definition to an otherwise open dining space. The movable kitchen island flanks the dining, transitioning from a breakfast counter to a preparation area while also making the kitchen an interactive space for guests. The blue subway tiles paired with handle-less teakwood cabinets form a seamless base for the statuario quartz countertop.
Daughter's Bedroom
The Daughter's Bedroom is an amalgamation of blues for the hand-painted mountains on the backwall and the warmth of the cane, jute and lightwood. The room maintains a curvilinear language as seen in the floating study nook, sidetables and bed. The curved headboard is framed by posts are repurposed from old furniture. The lightwood of the bookshelf helps to blend-in the door to the walk-in closet.
Son's Bedroom
The deep blue wallpaper paired with floating furniture creates a serene atmosphere for the room, invigorated by the white tapering ceiling which gives a soft glow at dusk. The skylight to the day-bed makes for a perfect reading nook on a gloomy day.
Master Bedroom FF
The Master bedroom opens with a glass double door that reveals a wall panelling that conceals entry to a linen closet. The theme of the room is defined by a deep rust colour complemented by beige leather texture. The floral wallpaper on the headboard wall ties in both these colours. The en-suite continues the theme by using a similar combination for tiles and laminates.
Guest bedroom GF
The horizontality of the room is enhanced by the continuous tabletop transitioning from sidetable to the window seat with ample storage. The light colours help to brighten the otherwise subdued space. The fluted headboard is set in a poster bed that is entirely repurposed from old bed frames. The floral wallpaper and the bird-shaped wall sconces make the space lively. The under-staircase space is utilized to create additional storage.
Family lounge and Home Theatre
The family lounge is an informal space for gathering, playing board games and relaxation. It forms a lively space created by the rich yellow texture paint and repurposed old columns of the bungalow.
The traditional theme of the lounge continues in the door to the hometheatre, which reveals a modern and compact high-capacity space for movie-nights. The elevated wall-to-wall bench at the back creates the perfect spot for the extended family to come together. The dark walls of the room are accentuated with a circular cove and diffused lighting.
