A rare and deeply personal project, Shri Manthan is a private beachfront villa located in Wayangini, Maharashtra, a place defined by its quietude and contemplative charm. Not far from the vibrant, bustling shores of Goa, this setting offers a stark contrast: serene, meditative, and almost untouched. Conceived as an ultra-luxury retreat, the villa unfolds as a carefully orchestrated spatial experience. It houses six bedrooms, complemented by two distinct living rooms that cater to both intimate and social gatherings. A generous dining and kitchen space anchors the home, while amenities such as a gym, home theatre, and bar extend the experience of leisure and indulgence. The architecture is defined by a series of sloped, stepped roofs that cascade with the form of the villa, responding to the coastal climate while lending the structure a layered, almost sculptural presence. These roofs not only articulate the massing but also help modulate light, heat, and rain, creating shaded volumes and intimate interior conditions. The highlight, however, is elevated, both physically and experientially. An infinity pool sits on the terrace, opening up to uninterrupted panoramic views of the sea. Paired with a thoughtfully designed deck, this upper-level retreat becomes a space for pause and immersion, where the horizon dissolves into the waterline. This gesture enhances privacy while intensifying the connection to the vast coastal landscape, framing the villa as a place of retreat, reflection, and refined living.

The process
The design process was guided by a careful reading of the coastal context, focusing on climate, views, and the need for privacy within an open beachfront setting. Early explorations centered on developing a massing strategy that could step with the landscape while responding to heat, wind, and heavy rainfall. This led to the evolution of a series of sloped and cascading roof forms that organize the villa spatially while enhancing environmental performance. Planning iterations balanced expansive, outward-looking spaces with more intimate, sheltered zones, ensuring a seamless transition between openness and seclusion. The placement of key experiential elements, particularly the elevated pool and deck, was refined to maximize views while maintaining exclusivity. Material and detailing strategies were developed in tandem to reinforce durability, comfort, and a cohesive architectural language rooted in its coastal setting.
